Rosa loves tailored jackets

These are jackets that I've researched for my graduate menswear collection that I am currently working on at the moment. Lets see where I end up with.

Summer Project 1

As I have now finished Uni for the year, I have some free time (before I get busy researching to start my final collection for my graduate show this time next year) to get a few things made.

One of them is a costume for my brother to wear in the Anime Convention on the 25th May (or around that time, depending on the weekend).

So I have started toiling the top - just the front and the back - in ramie as I had some scraps leftover. On Wednesday after my appointment at Uni, I'll see if I can find some cheap cotton to do another toiling, as I am planning on making the item on a bias, to get that stretchiness so that it is easier for my brother to put on and take off. But it's not finalised.

What I need to do now is make the sleeves from scratch and start making the trousers. Once that's sorted, I can go ahead and plan all the trimmings.

A trip to Shepherds Bush on Wednesday will help me understand exactly what trimmings I need and how much as expenses are very important here.

Fashion's World Cities

I was just reading a section on Japanese fashion to help with my essay about designers using national identity and found a few quotes that I would like to share:

* Japanese have been fascinated by Western dress
*Tokyo today holds a unique position in the urban hierarchy of fashion where consumption and production take place simultaneously
*Tokyo as a fashion city and Japanese designers gradually began to attract attention vicariously through the emergence of Kenzo Takada in Paris in 1970
*Kenzo's sudden appearance and his almost overnight success in Paris as a designer provoked an interest in Tokyo among the fashion professionals in the West, as an exotic, mysterious city, where there could be more creative designers, like Kenzo, hidden or waiting to be discovered.
*It was the combination of Japanese and Western elements that forced the destruction of both in order to reconstruct something completely new
*What is new and different about the current street fashion that emerged at the beginning of the 1990s is that different institutions of fashion for together to make use of and take advantage of the marketing potential of teenagers

New Blog

Created a new blog: http://themakingofrosablanca.wordpress.com/

This is for my new project: Design in Focus. Hopefully, if I'm strict enough, I shall update everything that is related to my work on that blog. The first post is up, background information on the project. Still playing around with the design look, but finally got the music up and running. Now to try and add tracks after tracks so that it flows from one song to another....
